About Girls of Dog Rescue
Because every dog deserves a second chance, and every life is worth saving.
At Girls of Dog Rescue, we believe that no animal should be forgotten, abandoned, or left without hope. Dogs facing abandonment, neglect, or uncertainty deserve compassion, safety, and loving homes. Our mission is to help vulnerable animals find that second chance.
Rescue takes more than compassion. Veterinary care, food, vaccinations, medication, transportation, and emergency treatment all require dependable funding. For a small rescue, even a $500 grant can make an extraordinary difference.
The Opportunity
We seek a compassionate, resourceful Volunteer Grant Writer to identify funding opportunities and turn compelling stories into support for animals in need. This role focuses especially on micro-grants, community grants, small foundations, and animal-welfare funding.
Grant writing is more than paperwork: it is advocacy for animals who cannot speak for themselves. Every successful application can help our rescue say, ‘Yes, we can help.’
Why Micro-Grants Matter
Micro-grants are lifelines, not small gestures. A $250 award might help with food and supplies; $500 may contribute to vaccinations and veterinary treatment; and $1,000 may support emergency medical care or several rescued dogs. Actual impact depends on costs and any funding restrictions.
Small, recurring awards can help keep food in bowls, provide critical care, fund safe transportation, and sustain the rescue between larger donations. Together, they can create a steadier financial foundation for lifesaving work.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Research & Funding Opportunities
Research micro-grants of approximately $250–$5,000 and larger awards when appropriate.
Identify animal-welfare foundations, corporate giving, community programs, and local sponsorships.
Review eligibility, deadlines, restrictions, and grant priorities; maintain a funding-opportunity tracker.
Grant Writing & Applications
Draft persuasive, accurate proposals, letters of inquiry, and applications.
Gather verified organizational details, budgets, rescue stories, and program needs from leadership.
Tailor requests to funder priorities and explain the impact of each proposed award.
Micro-Grant Strategy & Sustainability
Build a consistent pipeline of small and recurring grants.
Seek general operating support for essential expenses where eligible.
Help develop a practical funding strategy to reduce financial uncertainty.
Tracking & Reporting
Track submissions, decisions, awards, renewals, and reporting deadlines.
Assist with impact summaries and grant reports using confirmed results.
Ideal Volunteer Qualifications
Strong writing, editing, research, communication, and organizational skills; attention to deadlines; and the ability to work independently and collaborate with rescue leadership.
Grant writing, nonprofit development, or fundraising experience is helpful but not required. Familiarity with grant databases and Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or spreadsheets is a plus.
Most importantly, we value compassion, initiative, consistency, and a sincere commitment to animal welfare.
Flexible Hours & Service Verification
Suggested commitment is approximately 3–5 hours per week, with flexibility around availability and application deadlines. Remote work may be possible with rescue leadership approval.
Completed volunteer hours may be tracked and verified by an authorized representative of Girls of Dog Rescue, subject to organizational approval and recordkeeping. Schools, colleges, employers, courts, probation programs, and other receiving institutions decide whether hours satisfy their requirements. For mandated or court-ordered service, volunteers must obtain advance approval from the supervising authority.
What You Will Gain
Hands-on experience in grant research, persuasive proposal writing, nonprofit fundraising, and financial sustainability; the opportunity to build a writing portfolio; and meaningful contributions to animal rescue.
Above all, you will know your work helped make second chances possible.
The Difference You Can Make
Somewhere, there is a dog waiting: waiting to be noticed, waiting for care, waiting for someone to believe its life is worth saving.
That dog may never know your name or see the proposal you wrote. But because of your work, it may receive medical treatment, find safety, and one day fall asleep in a loving home.
You may never meet every animal you help save. Your impact will live on in every second chance you help make possible.
