Services for the UnderServed (S:US) is a non-profit organization that believes that every New Yorker deserves to know home in NYC. S:US works with communities and individuals in every corner of the city and on Long Island to make sure every New Yorker has the chance to find home. S:US serves tens of thousands of New Yorkers each year facing poverty, homelessness, and life with disabilities. We create pathways to rich and productive lives through high-quality housing, employment, skills-building, treatment, recovery, food security, and eviction prevention services.
StarHill is a 14-story permanent supportive housing development serving formerly homeless individuals with substance use disorders. It has 200 units designated for supportive housing residents and 125 units for community residents, creating a mixed-use, inclusive living environment that promotes integration and stability. StarHill is grounded in a person-centered, recovery-oriented approach that prioritizes independence, stability, and long-term success. Through housing and supportive services, the program helps residents build healthier, more productive lives within the community. It has a fitness center that residents are still learning to use. A volunteer fitness trainer would help teach residents how to use cable weight machines and demonstrations of calisthenics. This would be a one time class and based on interest on the volunteer and program side, may become an ongoing class.
