    Volunteer Opportunity: Grant Researcher & Writer

    Organization: Community Health Centres of Northumberland (CHCN)

    Location: Remote / Virtual (Ontario-based preferred)

    Time Commitment: Flexible (approx. 2-5/week, depending on availability)

    Term: Minimum 6 month commitment preferred, with a preference for 6 months-1 year

    Community Health Centres of Northumberland (CHCN) is a non-profit, community-governed organization committed to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families in Northumberland County. We provide inclusive, team-based primary care and community programs that respond to local needs, particularly for underserved populations.

    About the Role

    CHCN is seeking a motivated Volunteer Grant Researcher & Writer to support our fundraising and sustainability efforts. This role is ideal for someone looking to build grant-writing experience, give back to their community, or apply their research and writing skills to meaningful, real-world work.

    You’ll work closely with the Executive Director and/or management team to identify funding opportunities and help draft grant applications that support programs, staffing, and community health initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Research potential grant and funding opportunities (government, foundations, corporate and community funders)
    • Summarize funding opportunities and eligibility requirements
    • Assist with drafting and editing grant applications, letters of intent, and supporting documentation
    • Help track application deadlines and outcomes
    • Collaborate with CHCN staff to gather required data, narratives, and program information

    Skills & Qualifications

    • Strong research, writing, and editing skills
    • Interest in non-profit, health, community, or social services sectors
    • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
    • Attention to detail and comfort working with guidelines and criteria
    • Previous grant writing experience is an asset, but not required
    • Experience supporting/working with a not-for-profit and/or charitable organizations (volunteer or paid) is an asset
