Position Overview
Our Blood Institute (OBI) is seeking a creative, motivated Social Media Intern to manage a local OBI Instagram account for Summer 2026. This hands-on opportunity offers real-world experience in nonprofit communications, digital marketing, and community engagement.
The intern will play a key role in promoting local blood drives, strengthening community relationships, and supporting brand-building efforts that inspire donor participation.
This role is ideal for students interested in branding, social media strategy, nonprofit communications, and digital storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Posting
- Plan, film, edit, and publish engaging Instagram content
- Develop Reels, Stories, carousels, and static posts
- Highlight donor stories, staff features, blood drive promotions, and community partnerships
- Ensure brand consistency across all posts
Community Management
- Respond promptly to all comments and direct messages
- Engage with followers, partners, and community members
- Monitor engagement metrics and adjust strategy accordingly
Trend Monitoring & Research
- Identify emerging social media trends and audio
- Adapt trends appropriately to align with OBI’s mission
- Present content ideas and campaign suggestions to marketing team
Campaign Collaboration & Community Engagement
- Collaborate with local partners and businesses hosting blood drives to strengthen relationships and grow the local following
- Tap into personal networks and local influencers to amplify blood donation awareness
- Support seasonal campaigns and community initiatives
Qualifications & Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for a student who is:
- Actively engaged on Instagram and familiar with current trends
- Experienced in content creation (Reels, short-form video, editing apps)
- Comfortable filming and appearing on camera
- Confident presenting ideas in team and executive meetings
- Passionate about nonprofit work and community impact
- Creative, self-motivated, and organized
- Strong written communication skills
Preferred (but not required):
- Marketing, Communications, PR, Journalism, or Business majors
- Experience managing a brand or organization’s social media account
- Basic graphic design or Canva skills
- Familiarity with analytics and performance tracking
Commitment & Logistics
- Flexible summer schedule
- Visit donor center 1–2 times per week for filming and content creation
- Hybrid flexibility for content planning and editing
- Duration: Summer semester (May–August 2026)
- Compensation: This volunteer summer internship position offers a $500 scholarship in recognition of the intern’s contribution and successful completion of the program. Scholarship funds will be issued directly to the intern’s college or university. In addition, the organization will provide necessary equipment and reimburse pre-approved mileage expenses incurred in the course of internship activities.
