    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, education, social-emotional learning (SEL), and creative expression. MAP centers families as partners in a child’s growth, recognizing that strong, respectful communication with parents and guardians is essential to student success, trust, and continuity.

    About Family & Community Engagement

Family & Community Engagement ensures that parents and guardians are informed, supported, and meaningfully connected to MAP programs. This function prioritizes clarity, cultural responsiveness, and dignity-centered communication, helping families feel seen, heard, and included throughout the program year.

    Role Overview

We are seeking a Parent Engagement Specialist to serve as a consistent, compassionate point of contact for parents and guardians across MAP programs. This role supports communication, data collection, and relationship-building with families, ensuring parent voices inform program improvement and student support.

The Parent Engagement Specialist works closely with the Executive Assistant, Director of Programs, and Program Team to coordinate outreach, track feedback, and share insights that strengthen program delivery.

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians
    • Distribute, collect, and track parent and student questionnaires
    • Conduct ongoing outreach to parents throughout the program year, including updates, reminders, and feedback requests
    • Maintain organized records of parent communications and responses
    • Share insights, trends, and concerns with the Director and Program Team
    • Support clear, timely, and respectful communication with families
    • Ensure parent engagement practices are culturally responsive and trauma-informed
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    • Comfort working with families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to handle sensitive information with care and confidentiality
    • Reliability and consistency in follow-through
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience in family engagement, education, or community-based programs
    • Experience collecting or organizing survey or questionnaire data
    • Familiarity with youth-serving or nonprofit environments
    • Bilingual or multilingual skills (a plus)
    • Comfort collaborating with program and administrative teams

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration

    • Hands-on experience in family engagement and community-centered programming
    • Collaboration with program leadership and administrative teams
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • Insight into how family feedback shapes program quality and student support
    • A meaningful role supporting families navigating housing instability
