The Middle Patuxent Environmental Area (MPEA) seeks volunteers to assist with the maintenance of the 2500+ planted trees and shrubs within its borders. A phone interview and online video training & quiz will be required for any prospective volunteers.

Volunteer Duties:
- Manual removal of intruding vegetation on established tree and shrub plantings by pulling, cutting, digging, etc.
- Submit records of all removal activities using provided planting site maintenance form.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to lift 10 lbs or more.
- Must be able to work outdoors alone.
- Must be able to hike up to 1.5 miles round trip on unpaved trails.
- Phone interview required.
Training:
- 20-minute online training video and quiz.
- Additional training and training materials provided as needed.
Time Commitment:
- Minimum 1 hour per month. Volunteers will choose the days they work. All hours must be reported.
Minimum age: 18

From Route 29 at Route 32: Take 32 west to the Great Star Drive exit. Turn right onto Great Star Drive. Then make a right onto Summer Sunrise. Continue to Trotter Road and make a left. Proceed about 1 mile to the parking area on the right just beyond the small traffic circle.
From Route 29 at Route 108: Take Route 108 west and continue past Centennial Lane. Proceed past Harpers Farm Road to Trotter Road and make a left. Continue to the parking area on the left. If you reach the small traffic circle, you've gone too far.
