    Business Development Manager

    What will you be doing?

    About Global MapAid:

Global MapAid "or simply MapAid" is a non-profit organisation with a vision to boost food supply, clean drinking water and irrigation for small farmers in Africa, starting with Ethiopia's 47 million small farmers under the poverty line. Our method is to co-create an Artificial Intelligence "WellMapr" in Ethiopia to map shallow groundwater, so that food & water specialists have a better idea for where to drill or dig for water, making available money and time go further.

    Position Summary:

We are seeking an Business development manager who understands the USA who is both passionate and has time (at least 2 days per week or more) to help us build the funding for our Ethiopia work, and build our small but dedicated US volunteer team.

    This is an unpaid role.

    Goal One

The first goal is to create and execute a fundraising plan for MapAid - and the role has freedom to create this plan.

However, we can then offer useful perspectives and reflections and ideas & connections, to hone the plan, and add value.

(MapAid is fully registered with up to date filings in the UK and has 501c3 status under our fiscal sponsor Omprakash.org).

    Goal Two

A second goal for the role is to support funding initiatives for one specific local partner in the Ethiopia. This partner is seeking to archive and digitise data that very likely is important to our AI system. So this is all collaborative.

    Goal Three

The third goal is to build a small team of volunteers - possibly including a lawyer, a marketeer, and grants writer. Again, the role has great freedom to define subsequent team roles. The idea here is to spread the loading and de-risk, one person cannot do or know everything.

    Summary:

We seek a flexible Volunteer and a Leader. Someone who has developed businesses before, (and if not from the charity sector, is willing to study how it is done in this sector).

This is a respected and valuable role within our executive team

We are looking for someone with the ability to work with diverse personality types and unpaid volunteers - both need certain skills

If you feel you may have these skills and a passion for supporting a vital cause, we'd love to hear from you!

    Qualifications:

    • strong on details, and verbal communication skills
    • experience in managing administration
    • networker
    • public speaker
    • past business development experience
    • useful book of contacts
    • passion for bringing water to small farmers
    • passion for Africa
    • age and retiree status, no barrier

    Benefits:

    • gain valuable experience into charity work
    • make a meaningful impact on a global scale
    • connect with a passionate community of changemakers
    • could complement your retirement, or other part time job, and the primary goal is to help the whole team as it seeks positive outcomes for 47 million small farmers in Ethiopia

    What are we looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Business development manager to help develop our US volunteers with their fundraising, as someone dedicated to empowering African farmers. The ideal candidate will be a skilled networker and fundraiser with a deep understanding of different types of organisations, and the flexibility to think outside the box, as a leader and team player.

    Responsibilities:

    • Fundraising: Looking after writing and executing a plan, and willing to receive professional inputs from other volunteers
    • Flexibility: Willing to help MapAid but also to help a local Ethiopian partner whose success could enable the overall AI system to advance.
    • Miscellaneous: Be prepared, we fully expect the role to develop !
    • Collaborate: Work collaboratively with other departments, such as board, fundraising and program teams, to ensure consistent efforts and amplify impact.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience: Proven experience in administration, preferably for a non-profit or cause-driven organisation.
    • Skills: Strong writing and communication skills, details matter.
    • Knowledge: Of previous systems that worked.
    • Passion: A genuine passion for Global MapAid's mission and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of African farmers.

    What difference will you make?

This a unique, humbling opportunity, towards helping us begin to create sustainable farm water for 47 million people in Ethiopia, living in rural areas, under the poverty line.

We have noticed the best volunteers have patience and good sense of humour, because altogether what we are doing as a team is difficult.

But when was something worth doing, ever easy ?

    Before you apply

    Dear Business development director

Please submit a short CV and cover note explaining your ideas.

You must be able to commit at least 2 days per week, over at least 18 months.

Along with social & leadership skills, please demonstrate:

    a) Reliability to stay in the role for at least 18 months to ensure success.

    b) Passion for Africa and your motivation to make a difference.

    c) Access to UK follower networks—any demographic is welcome, though we attract females aged 50 to 65 and would love to engage youth as well.

    Kind regards,

    Rupert D-B
