Volunteer Opportunity: Food Rescue Driver

Porchlight Community Services rescues food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributes it to San Diego individuals and families through a grocery-style model. This approach enables individuals to choose what works best for their households while also making safe, allergy-friendly foods more accessible.

We’re looking for volunteer drivers to help us rescue food from local businesses and bring it back to our location.

What you’ll do:

• Pick up and deliver rescued food donations using Porchlight’s van
• Communicate with donor partners to confirm pick-ups
• Safely load, transport, and unload donations
• Weigh donations and record food rescue data to help track impact
• Follow basic food safety guidelines

Shifts we need covered:

• Tuesday: 8:00am–12:00pm & 1:00pm to 3:00 pm
• Thursday: 8:00am–1:00pm
• Saturday & Sunday: 9:00am–12:00pm

What we’re looking for:

• Valid driver’s license
• Dependable and communicative
• Able to lift up to 30 lbs
• Comfortable with basic record-keeping
• Willing to commit to at least 3 months
