    Group Volunteer Projects

Are you interested in taking care of our public lands? Are you part of a group that wants to volunteer outdoors? Jeffco Parks & Open Space would love to work with you! We regularly partner with businesses, schools, and community groups that want to give back. There is no fee, and JCPOS provides the tools, materials, and staff instruction. We have several different project types that can accommodate a range of interests and physicality.

    Project Types

    Park Cleanup/Beautification

Volunteers will clean trash, recyclables, and debris from a park. Trash affects water quality, endangers plants and animals, and pollutes the outdoor spaces we depend on for tourism and recreation.

    Forest Stewardship & Fuels Management

Volunteers will cut and limb small trees that are growing too densely or crowding out desired species. Strategic, long-term forest management helps mitigate catastrophic wildfire conditions for healthier, more diverse landscapes.

    Trail Maintenance/Construction

Volunteers will use hand tools to maintain existing trails and improve the function of trail features. Volunteers may also trim vegetation encroaching on the trail corridor. Improving the quality of trails minimizes habitat fragmentation and concentrates recreation along designated corridors.

    Invasive Weed Removal

Volunteers will remove noxious weeds and may seed affected areas. Controlling noxious weeds helps keep natural habitats resilient to a changing climate.

Restoration (seeding, transplanting, closing unauthorized trails)

Volunteers will restore trampled areas to their natural state. This includes transplanting nearby vegetation, seeding, placing rocks and other barriers, and removing invasive plants. Concentrating trails and recreation along designated corridors helps protect already-stressed native plants and minimizes habitat fragmentation.

    Historic Building Landscaping

Volunteers will help maintain historic properties by limbing trees, raking leaves and pine duff, removing debris, and improving drainage.

    Barbed Wire Removal

Volunteers will remove old barbed wire along boundary lines. Barbed wire is detrimental to wildlife trying to cross these lines leading to entanglement or death. The removal will involve coiling wire and hiking off trail in areas that may be steep or rocky.
