VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR KIDS BEREAVEMENT OVERNIGHT CAMP IN THE HILL COUNTRY!
Camp Erin 2026 will be held from Thursday, June 25th – Sunday, June 28th 2026, at Camp Buckner in Burnet, TX.
Burnet is located in the Texas hill country and Camp Buckner is just a few miles due south of the famed Camp Longhorn.
Camp Erin DFW is a family weekend camp specifically designed for families with children and teens, ages 5-18, who have experienced the death of a significant person. Camp Erin combines traditional, fun camp activities with grief education and emotional support, free of charge for all families. Led by grief professionals and trained caring volunteers, Camp Erin provides a unique opportunity for the children (and the adult campers) to increase levels of hope, enhance self-esteem, and especially to learn that they are not alone.

Cómo participar como voluntario(a) en esta oportunidad
Here is just some of what Camp Erin 2026 Volunteers can expect:
- On Thursday, volunteers will arrive at Camp Buckner around noon for a lunch meet-and-greet with fellow volunteers, Camp Director Tierney Titus and Camp Buckner staff. Camp rules will be discussed at this time. After lunch, volunteers will have time to unpack in their cabins and explore a bit before regrouping to help set up and prepare for families to arrive for check-in around 5pm.
- Volunteers will be assigned to their preferred age group for Friday and Saturday activities, in which they will serve as helpers to facilitators, buddies to the children and support to the families.
- Friday and Saturday are packed with activities, but there is family free time in the afternoons. During this time, the families can choose to go swimming at the pool, kayak on the lake, have fun at the blob (that thingy that you jump on to pop people into the water), try archery or just relax in their cabin.
- Although volunteers will stay busy, they will have "free time" as well, and they will have many opportunities during camp to get to know their fellow volunteers and make new, lasting friendships.
- Thursday night after dinner is reserved for "getting to know you" night, where families have the opportunity to stand and share about the loved one(s) they have lost.
- Friday night will be "movie and popcorn" night and Saturday night is a special night for s'mores around the campfire" and "Luminaries" (grief project families work on).
- Expect healing to happen, lives changed, new friendships born, and the making of wonderful memories that will last a lifetime (for the families AND the volunteers)!
Because Camp Erin is made possible by the Eluna Network, we follow the Eluna/Camp Erin volunteer guidelines below:
- Volunteers must be at least 18 years old
- Be in good physical condition (lots of walking on gravel paths)
- Participate in a Camp Erin Volunteer Applicant phone interview
- Submit to a national background check
- Attend Camp Erin specific volunteer trainings, and any relevant pre-camp meetings-volunteers who do not live in the DFW area will be able to participate in trainings and meetings via online platforms.
- Complete the Sexual Abuse and Child Molestation Awareness Training (online) provided by the Youth Camp Training of Texas and approved by Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Volunteers are expected to be role models for the campers. They should provide comfort and support while participating with the families through camp activities and sharing time. Most importantly, we ask that volunteers be flexible to help create a safe, positive, fun, and energetic atmosphere for the campers to experience and express their grief.
