People Person Needed for Local Lady with Blindness

A People Person is Needed for Local Lady with Blindness to assist her with reading and sorting mail, a little grocery shopping must mostly someone to have coffee, a visit and a chat. She uses a variety of resources and technology to get things done but the occasional item challenges the accessibility features. And, the grocery store? well, we all have our limits (smile). If you have about 90 minutes every other week you can make a lot of difference and the tasks are easy.

Today is the day to make a difference in your life and that of a neighbor. With just an hour or two per week you can be a friendly visitor, a shopping buddy or a reader for a neighbor who is legally blind.

Requirements to be a great volunteer include:

• a desire to help others;
• a pleasant demeanor;
• a good reading/speaking voice;
• average reading skills;
• organizational or planning abilities;
• a good driving record;
• a clear criminal history;
• two references
• access to a car with proof of insurance;
• a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.

Volunteers will be matched within three to five miles of home or work. We will need to spend some time on a Teams meeting for an interview and sighted guide training.
