    Descripción

Help the cause of Adult Literacy as a teacher for ESL Students in virtual or face-to-face classes

As a teacher, your goal would be to help the cause of literacy by providing one-to-one tutoring or small group tutoring of adults who need help with reading and writing, or conversation for new speakers of English.

You will be given all the training you need! An initial six-hour training workshop will be followed up by continued training after you are placed with a student or class. As a tutor, you must attend the workshop and follow-up training in order to be qualified.

LCUP asks that you make a commitment for a minimum of one year. This allows you and your student to build a trusting relationship and to see progress. LCUP also offers small groups that meet in-person or virtually once a week. Citizenship classes are also on our class schedule posted on www.lcup.net.

Qualifications: Tutors must be 18 years old or more; dependable; prompt, interested in helping others; sensitive to different backgrounds and cultures; respectful of confidentiality; PATIENT; optimistic/positive outlook; and have a good command of the English language and grammar. Computer Literacy is helpful.

Requirements: Tutors must be able to create a learning plan based on his/her student’s needs.

Benefits: There is great satisfaction in giving to others; in helping resolve a limiting factor in your student’s life; in learning new skills in teaching and tutoring techniques; in obtaining a deeper understanding of different lifestyles and cultures; in making new friends and most of all...in having fun!
