    Hospice Volunteer - specializing in American Sign Language - Central Ohio

    Give comfort to those at the end of life by becoming a hospice volunteer. You can help make our patients day just by being a friendly face and a kind presence! Hospice care extends beyond medical needs to address the emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of our patients. Our volunteers help our team to meet these needs by visiting patients to provide companionship.

    Bella Care Hospice provides compassionate, dignified care to patients and families during life’s most difficult moments. Volunteers are essential members of our care team, offering companionship, comfort, and connection.

    Position Overview

    Bella Care Hospice is seeking a caring and committed volunteer who is proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) to support our patients and families who are Deaf or hard of hearing. This volunteer will help ensure that every individual receives the emotional and social support they deserve, free from communication barriers. We have openings in Westerville, OH.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide companionship to patients through conversation, presence, or quiet support—using ASL as needed
    • Assist with communication between patients, families, and staff (informally, not in a medical‑interpreter capacity)
    • Offer emotional support to family members
    • Participate in life‑enrichment activities or bedside visits
    • Maintain confidentiality and uphold hospice care standards
    • Document volunteer hours and visit notes as required

    Qualifications

    • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
    • Compassionate, patient, and reliable
    • Comfortable being present with individuals facing serious illness
    • Able to work independently and maintain professional boundaries
    • Must pass a background check, 2-Step TB skin tests, and complete Bella Care Hospice volunteer training
