Role Overview
As the IT Cloud Systems & Security Administrator, you are the gatekeeper of WSUA's digital infrastructure and data security. Instead of writing custom software, you will maintain, secure, and optimize our existing tech stack—specifically managing our self-hosted Virtual Private Server (VPS) mail engine and structured cloud data repositories.
This is a premier operational role reporting directly to the Executive Director, ideal for a computer science student, industry professional, or cybersecurity enthusiast looking for significant real-world environment ownership.
📋 Key Responsibilities
- Self-Hosted Server Architecture (VPS Management)
- Monitor and manage server performance metrics (including RAM, vCPU, and stateful storage) on our self-hosted mail environment.
- Provision and maintain official organizational email accounts (e.g., user@westernsolidarityua.org) for leadership and outbound coordinators.
- Monitor inbound and outbound server configurations, ensuring memory-intensive backend filtering processes (like Rspamd and ClamAV) operate flawlessly.
- Email Security Engineering & Deliverability Optimization
- Configure and actively monitor advanced domain trust protocols, including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and Reverse DNS (PTR), to protect WSUA's domain reputation.
- Own outbound relay tracking to ensure 100% email inbox deliverability across active domains, protecting our growth team’s B2B and donor outreach from global spam filters.
- Information Architecture & Access Control
- Structure, audit, and maintain permission boundaries within the organization’s Shared Document Folder to serve as a seamless, searchable archive.
- Collaborate with leadership to map workflows that capture field logs, logistics updates, and legal research out of ephemeral spaces (like Signal) and preserve them in the main repository.
- Technical Stack Advisory & Open-Source Integration
- Act as the internal technical consultant to leadership, evaluating open-source, lean software integrations.
- Review tools that enhance team collaboration without introducing financial bloat or compromising WSUA's data sovereignty.
🛠 Qualifications & Skills
- Technical Interest: Background or strong interest in Linux server administration, network security, IT systems administration, or cloud database management.
- Core Concepts: Clear understanding of email server mechanics, DNS records, and user access controls.
- Mindset: Meticulous, security-conscious, and self-motivated. You enjoy setting up clean, automated, and frictionless sandboxes.
- Passion: A shared alignment with our mission of international solidarity, transparency, and humanitarian resilience.
🌟 The WSUA Professional Promise
In exchange for your specialized technical expertise, WSUA provides:
- Direct Executive Mentorship: Regular syncs with executive leadership to review your systems architecture and align tasks with your technical career track.
- Verifiable Portfolio Impact: Complete ownership over server metrics, security implementations, and cloud systems you optimize from day one.
- Professional Validation: Detailed letters of recommendation, professional references, and LinkedIn endorsements upon the successful completion of your tenure.
- Academic Credit: Full cooperation with university engineering or IT departments if you are pursuing this for internship or course credit.
Logistics & Time Commitment
- Hours: Part-time, 3-5 hours per week
- Location: 100% Remote / Virtual with flexible, asynchronous workflows.
- Duration: Minimum 6-month commitment.
