Job overview:
Volunteer grant writer is responsible for securing funding to support Palmetto Literacy Council’s mission and programs. This involves researching potential grant opportunities, developing compelling proposals, managing the application process, and ensuring compliance with funder requirements.
Key responsibilities:
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with funders and other stakeholders.
- Conduct thorough research to identify and assess potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other funding sources.
- Develop grant proposals, LOI’s, and applications, including writing narratives, developing budgets, and gathering supporting documents, tailored to the requirements of each funding opportunity.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., program staff, finance, and leadership) to gather information, refine project details, and ensure proposals align with the organization's mission and goals.
- Manage the grant application process, ensuring timely submissions and compliance with all funder guidelines and deadlines.
- Maintain accurate records of all grant activities, including proposals submitted, grants awarded, and funds received.
- Prepare and submit required grant reports, demonstrating the proper use of funds and adherence to grant agreements.
- Ability to use a grant search database such as Grant Station.
- Stay informed about current trends in foundation giving, government funding, and philanthropic initiatives relevant to the organization's area of work.
Qualifications:
- Experience in grant writing, preferably within the nonprofit sector, demonstrating a successful track record of securing and managing grant funding.
- Strong research skills to effectively identify funding sources and gather relevant information.
- Exceptional written communication and editing skills, with a proven ability to craft compelling and persuasive proposals.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Proficiency in relevant computer software, including Google Office Suite and grant management software/databases.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Solid understanding of nonprofit fundraising principles.
