Recycling Program Volunteer Needed!
Milwaukee Pets Alive isn’t just another rescue. We are here to shape rescue. Join us as a Recycling Program Volunteer! There’s never been a better time to volunteer with us if you are looking to be a part of something bigger than yourself - help us as we work towards building a sanctuary so we can serve even MORE special animals and make SE WI No Kill! This is a monumental undertaking and we are looking for TEAMMATES to make this vision a reality!
We love a good double dip. No, not the kind where you dip your chip back into the communal dip bowl after you’ve taken a bite of it (that’s just wrong) but the kind where your actions help more than one entity. This is one of those opportunities!
As a rescue, we have a lot of supporters that have a lot of cat food cans (as well as other household recyclables like soda cans). While many do recycle them in their curbside bins every other week, they aren’t generating any funds to help animals by doing it that way! And when there’s an opportunity to recycle to help animals, it can encourage those who aren’t already to do so (instead of throwing them in the trash) which keeps them out of the landfill - and that helps the environment - and that’s what we call a double dip, my friends! There is nothing worse than walking past a trash can when entering a store (or at a gas station, etc.) and seeing recyclables like cans and bottles sticking out IN the garbage. We've created an outlet to keep those items out of the trash while helping our special needs and considerations animals at the same time (and we'd like to add more - this is a big community!)
The Recycling Program Volunteer will:
- Pick up aluminum recycleables at our 1 currently established recycling drop off site at Bark N' Scratch Outpost (5835 W. Bluemound Rd. Milwaukee) typically once a week or once every 2 weeks (Bark N' Scratch employees will communicate with you when their bins are full and expect a timely pick up in exchange for them generously hosting our bins). Recycleables must be picked up from Bark N' Scratch during their open business hours but they are open 7 days a week which makes for easy coordination with anyone's schedule - whether you prefer weekdays, or weekends.
- Bring recyclables collected to a recycling center (Pretty much every city has a recycling center that pays by the pound for recyclables like aluminum cans. We can let you know the recycling centers other volunteers of ours have used but if these are not near where you work or live, you are welcome to go to one that is and we can help you locate one). This can be a very convenient way to help {because you can do this in the community where you live} while helping us in a big way! Some volunteers like to head straight to the recycling center after they pick up recycleables from Bark N' Scratch. Others like to wait until they have done several pick ups and have a full car full before they head over - the choice is yours - whatever you prefer!
- We raise some really great funds from just our one, current recycling drop-off site so would love for our new Recycling Program Volunteer to want to expand the program and add additional drop off sites by reaching out to local businesses that may want to help animals and host a drop off bin, too (some ideas of places that might want to assist us in our efforts and be a drop off location are - pet supply stores, vet clinics, grocery stores, gas stations, etc. - choose some businesses in the area of town where you live or work and is convenient for you to pick up at!).
- Another bonus would be for this Volunteer to explore other recycling programs MPA could be a part of like plastic, cell phone, ink cartridges, small electronics, etc.
Volunteer tasks are done around the volunteer’s own schedule - when it’s convenient for you - morning, day, or night - though some tasks will involve the occasional coordination of your schedule with the schedule of others (picking up during business hours, dropping off at recycling center during their open hours, etc.).
We are looking for one volunteer to pick up from our established Bark N' Scratch recycling drop off location (and would love for that volunteer to add another location...or several), but are also interested in individuals who may live in other counties within our service area (Waukesha, Racine, Ozaukee, Kenosha) that may want to start a drop off location in their area so we can capture the support of those that don't live near Bark N' Scratch and find it too far to drive to to drop off their aluminum cans and grow this program and the funds we can raise to help the special needs and considerations animals we proudly serve.
Must have valid driver's license and car insurance and reliable transportation.
Individuals motivated by helping animals and the environment will grow this program and make it into an even bigger success for our organization.
The right individuals will strongly believe in our mission, vision, and core values and have a sincere interest in elevating our organization, extending our reach, and growing with us (so commitment and dedication are important).
We are an entirely volunteer-run rescue. Everything you see was created and accomplished by a volunteer! We have no employees, so all volunteers should be self-motivated, be a self-starter with initiative, drive, ambition, and are able to work independently. How our organization is structured requires that all volunteers be able to accept direction to produce cohesive messaging, vision, results, and practices consistent with that of the overall organization as a whole and then take that direction to lead in the execution of their piece of the organization. Individual must be able to follow through on their commitments. MPA is looking for a volunteer (or several) to fill this role who recognize the importance of working on behalf of the special animals we serve and will work hard for them as they are counting on us to save their lives!
When every person does a little to make a difference, together, we make change. Reaching as many people as possible to let them know we’re here and the important work we are doing for an important population of animals that have no one else but us is directly proportionate to what we can achieve, and the number of animals we can save. The more volunteer help we have, the more animals we can help. It’s that simple. Will YOU help? If you want to help and can fulfill the needs we are looking for in a volunteer for this role, please email volunteer@milwaukeepetsalive.org or reply to this posting. You can also find our volunteer application at www.milwaukeepetsalive.org/volunteer if you're excited about this opportunity and ready to take the first steps towards joining our team!
Please help us do more for the animals of this community! Thank you.
Milwaukee Pets Alive (MPA) is an all-volunteer, No Kill, 501c3 special needs and considerations rescue that focuses on saving those local animals that have been passed over by, would not be accepted into, or would be killed by other rescues and shelters because of their needs and considerations and would have no other option for life except for through our organization. These animals may be shy, scared, under-socialized, injured, aged, differently-abled, have medical needs, or need extra resources - all deserve the chance to be loved and cherished. And all deserve time, understanding, patience, and good, comprehensive veterinary care to help them get happy, healthy, and reach their highest potential. Their lives are important.
Our mission, through our work aforementioned and through comprehensive programs and resources to educate and help community members help the animals in their own lives (thereby preventing more animals from entering the shelter system), is to end the killing of homeless companion animals in southeast WI. The population we rescue comprises those that continue to die in the greatest numbers in our community.
Our vision is for southeast WI to be one of the safest communities in the United States for companion animals.
We couldn’t help these special animals of our community that we do if not for the wonderful people who volunteer their time and talents!
Are you ready to do more for the animals of YOUR community? Become a part of our team! Reach out to us today!
