    Advisory Board Member

Now Seeking: Volunteers to join the MTR Advisory Board

    About Mass Teacher Resources

Mass Teacher Resources (MTR), is a 4-year old nonprofit organization serving the greater Boston area.

MTR supports our public schools by providing teachers with classroom supplies that promote educational equity and reduce environmental waste - empowering student achievement and building a more just and sustainable future. We serve elementary and middle (K-8) public school teachers at Title 1 Schools across 70 communities in Greater Boston through the MTR Free Store, where teachers can shop for the classroom supplies they need completely free of charge. Our goal is to help relieve the financial burden many teachers take on to ensure that their students have the tools they need to learn. MTR is a fiscally sponsored organization of Third Sector New England, Inc. (TSNE). Find out more at www.massteacherresources.org.

MTR seeks local volunteers to support the operations and growth of this startup nonprofit as a member of the MTR Advisory Board. Advisory Board members serve as ambassadors for MTR in their communities, and actively contribute to projects and initiatives designed to help raise awareness and support for MTR across multiple constituencies.

    Responsibilities:

MTR Advisory Board members can expect a volunteer experience that includes in-person and virtual activities as well as some independent and small group work.

MTR Advisory Board members are expected to:

    • Attend in-person Advisory Board Meetings, scheduled monthly
    • Participate in fundraising and marketing events and activities
    • Represent MTR at community events
    • Introduce MTR to their personal and professional networks
    • Contribute to strategic planning initiatives

    Qualifications:

We are seeking enthusiastic, people-oriented individuals who are passionate about the mission of MTR, and are able to "roll up their sleeves" and actively contribute to efforts to launch and scale this important new organization. Ideal Advisory Board members also possess:

    • Willingness to work collaboratively with multiple constituencies: staff, other volunteers, board directors, donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders
    • Interest in networking and fundraising, to help MTR meet revenue goals
    • Excellent people skills, with a genuine desire to be helpful
    • An ability to have fun while working hard

Location: Meetings and work groups may meet in person or virtually; in-person meetings may be scheduled at the MTR Free Store, located in Woburn, MA or at a nearby office or public library.

Schedule: Varied and flexible; the average time commitment is 5-7 hours each month.
