Overview
Join our dedicated volunteer community at Loveland’s Community Kitchen—serving over 135,000 meals annually to those experiencing food insecurity in Loveland and Larimer County. Volunteers are the backbone of our operations, supporting daily service 7 days a week by distributing meals, packing bags, picking up donations, assembling food items, and engaging with guests.
Role Descriptions
- Dinner Service Volunteer (Evening Shift)
Time Commitment: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Current Opportunities:
- 1st & 4th Monday of each month
- 3rd Tuesday of each month
- 1st and 4th Wednesday of each month
- 2nd Thursday of each month
- 5th Friday when it occurs
- 3rd & 4th Saturdays (Weekend shifts run 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
Responsibilities:
- Serve hot meals and beverages to guests.
- Cut and package desserts and breads.
- Interact warmly with guests—fostering conversation and community.
- Clean up and reset kitchen/dining area at shift end.
Ideal For: Groups or individuals who enjoy structured routines and like hands‑on teamwork environments.
- Guest Check-In Volunteer (Host/Hostess Role)
Time Commitment: Weekly—Monday, Wednesday, or Saturday evenings (aligned with dinner shifts)
Responsibilities:
- Greet arriving guests at the door.
- Use tablet and scanner to check in each guest via ID Scan Card.
- Offer a welcoming presence and assist with guest flow into the dining room.
Ideal For: Volunteers who enjoy engaging with people, emphasizing hospitality, and comfortable with basic tech.
- Prep Service Volunteer (Day shift)
Time Commitment: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Current Openings:
- Monday, Tuesday, and Friday mornings
Responsibilities:
- Package and prepare various food items
- Wrapping silverware and washing dishes
- Clean and reset the kitchen at the end of shift
Ideal For: Individuals who enjoy structured routine and working with likeminded volunteers creating community.
- Substitute / “Float” Volunteer
Time Commitment: On‑call or occasional, as needed
Responsibilities:
- Fill in for scheduled shifts when teams are short (could be any of the above duties).
- Great for volunteers with unpredictable schedules who still want to help.
Common Qualifications & Benefits
No prior kitchen experience needed. Training and supervision provided for all roles.
Skills/Traits:
- Friendly, patient, and respectful communication with guests.
- Ability to stand or sit for shift duration, lift up to ~25 lbs occasionally (bins, food).
- Basic tablet/scanner familiarity (for check‑in role).
- Reliability and punctuality appreciated.
