Early childhood is the most important period of learning for every human being. It is during this time that children develop their cognitive, emotional, and social skills. Studies show that children who are nurtured in a stimulating environment are more likely to grow up healthy and have high self-esteem.
Nepal is a leader in the field of early childhood education. A 2019 UNICEF report found that children who participated in early childhood education programs were 17 times more likely to be on track in their early learning and number skills. However, Nepal's national education budget allocation is less than 3% to pre-primary education, which severely impacts the development opportunities for children in the early stages of their education.
VIN's voluntary service for child care and early childhood education has been very impactful in the rural communities of Nepal. People in Nepal have limited awareness of the importance of early childhood education and limited access to resources. VIN has set up early childhood education centers (ECDCs) in these much-needed communities. These centers provide children with a stimulating environment where they can learn and grow. They also provide parents with education and support on how to best care for their children.
VIN's ECDCs are making a real difference in the lives of children in Nepal. They are helping to ensure that all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
