Behavioral Health Specialist - Professional Volunteer

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

The SpreadYourHeart Organization is seeking a compassionate and qualified Behavioral Health Specialist, Professional Volunteer to serve as a clinical advisor and group facilitator for our community Peer Support Circles.

While our baseline circles focus on non-clinical, peer-led emotional guidance and active listening, the Behavioral Health Specialist plays a crucial role in providing professional oversight, facilitating specialized recovery/wellness circles, leading participant intake evaluations, and ensuring clear referral pathways for individuals requiring higher-level clinical care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Group Facilitation: Lead specialized, trauma-informed peer support groups both virtually and at local community pop-up locations (e.g., local libraries, community centers).
• Participant Intake & Assessment: Assist with participant onboarding to evaluate mental health needs and match individuals with the appropriate tier of peer guidance or professional resources.
• Non-Clinical Oversight & Referral Routing: Provide expert guidance to volunteer peer facilitators, ensuring clear boundaries between non-clinical peer support and formal therapy, while routing individuals in crisis to licensed care networks.
• Workshop & Content Development: Help design and review educational materials, coping toolkits, and wellness strategies for community distribution.
• Program Feedback & Impact Tracking: Collaborate with SYH leadership to track participant outcomes, maintain confidentiality standards, and continuously improve support circle frameworks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Formal education or certification in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field (Licensed, Associate/Provisionally Licensed, or advanced Master's candidates accepted) (Required).
• Minimum 1 year of experience in mental health counseling, crisis intervention, group therapy, or community-based behavioral health (preferred but not required).
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, active listening techniques, and culturally responsive support practices.
• Excellent interpersonal, empathetic, and group management skills.
• Clean background record. No criminal offenses of any kind.
