The USS Midway Museum is looking for volunteers who enjoy crafts and interacting with the public to join their Knot Team. The Knot Team has a very popular exhibit where volunteers demonstrate rudimentary knot tying skills.
They also make and give knotted items, such as Turks-head bracelets, lanyards and monkey fists, for a suggested donation towards the Midway Education Scholarship program. The total donations collected for the year 2015 was more than $100,000 from more than 17,000 knotted items.
Project Requirements & Important Notes
Key Responsibilities:
Create a welcoming and supportive environment where participants can spend a good time
Required Skills/Experience:
Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to learn and demonstrate knot tying, and a basic understanding of the museum's layout and history
Previous knot tying or macram experience is preferred, but they are willing to train.
Time Commitment: 10 hours per month. Flexible shifts are available 10:00am - 5:00pm on weekends and holidays, with the possibility of volunteering from home with approval
