Be the Voice of the Red Cross: Public Information Volunteer

Be the Voice That Inspires Hope

Are you passionate about storytelling, media, or public communication? The American Red Cross is seeking volunteers to support our Communications and Public Affairs team as Media Relations (Public Information) volunteers.

In this role, you’ll help share timely, accurate information with the public and amplify the stories that bring our mission to life. Whether supporting disaster response or highlighting community impact, your voice can help build trust and inspire action when it matters most.

    What You’ll Do:

    • Support media outreach and help share Red Cross stories with local news outlets

    • Assist with interviews, press materials, and public-facing communication

    • Help promote events, training, and disaster response efforts

    • Build relationships with media contacts and track coverage

    • Support messaging that keeps communities informed before, during, and after disasters

    Time Commitment:

This flexible volunteer role typically requires about 1–5 hours per month, with opportunities to get more involved during disasters or special events. A 6-month commitment is preferred.

    What We’re Looking For:

    • Experience or interest in communications, public relations, journalism, or media

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills

    • Comfort speaking with others or representing an organization publicly (training provided)

    • Interest in supporting disaster response and community preparedness

Training is provided, including media relations basics and spokesperson preparation, so you’ll feel confident stepping into the role.

    Why It Matters:

When disasters strike, clear and trusted communication is critical. As a Media Relations volunteer, you’ll help ensure communities have the information they need and that stories of hope, resilience, and support are shared.
