Become a Child Advocate (CASA/GAL) in Valley County

Make a lasting impact in a child’s life by becoming a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), also known as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) volunteer. CASA/GALs are trained community volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children involved in child protection court cases. You don’t need a legal background—just a big heart and a willingness to help!

We are seeking volunteers who reside in Ada, Elmore, Boise, and Valley counties, as these are the counties our program serves.

    What You'll Do:

    • Visit the child at least once a month to build trust and stay informed about their situation
    • Write court reports based on your independent investigation, observations and conversations, helping the judge make informed decisions about the child’s future
    • Attend court hearings and stay in communication with professionals and caregivers
    • Stay involved for the life of the case, which typically lasts 1.5 to 2 years
    • Be a consistent presence—you may be the one stable adult in a child’s life during a difficult time

    Requirements to Volunteer:

    • Be 21 years or older
    • Attend a Volunteer Information Hour Meeting
    • Complete a volunteer application
    • Interview with the CASA trainer
    • Pass a criminal history check
    • Complete 30 hours of training
    • Submit monthly case hours and miles
    • Complete 12 hours of continuing education annually.
