Walking alongside families as they grieve—one moment at a time 💙

    Position Type: Volunteer

    What This Is All About:

Hospice Bereavement Volunteers provide compassionate support to family members and loved ones after the death of a hospice patient. Through listening, presence, and gentle outreach, volunteers help ensure that no one feels alone during the grieving process. Volunteers may also assist with legacy projects, memory-making activities, and remembrance initiatives—helping families honor and preserve the life and memories of their loved one. Bereavement support is a vital part of hospice care and is offered in accordance with CMS hospice regulations.

    What You’ll Do:

    • Provide non-clinical bereavement support through phone calls, cards, support groups, memorial services, or in-person visits as assigned.
    • Assist families with legacy projects, such as memory books, photo collages, handprints, or other creative remembrance activities.
    • Offer a caring presence, active listening, and emotional support to individuals and families experiencing loss.
    • Follow bereavement care plans developed by the hospice interdisciplinary team.
    • Maintain appropriate boundaries and respect each person’s unique grieving process.
    • Accurately document volunteer contacts and report concerns or high-risk grief indicators to hospice staff.
    • Maintain confidentiality and follow all hospice policies, HIPAA, and CMS requirements.

    Who We’re Looking For:

    • Volunteers age 18+ with compassion, patience, and strong listening skills
    • Comfort working with grieving individuals and families
    • Ability to assist with legacy or remembrance activities in a sensitive and creative way
    • Respect for diverse beliefs, cultures, and expressions of grief
    • Willingness to follow hospice policies, professional boundaries, and confidentiality requirements
    • Commitment to completing hospice volunteer orientation and required training

    We’ll Support You:

Bereavement volunteers receive specialized training in grief support, communication, boundaries, and recognizing when to involve hospice professionals. Volunteers are also trained on legacy projects and memory-making activities. Ongoing support and supervision are provided by the hospice bereavement coordinator.

    Why You’ll Love This:

You’ll help families feel seen, heard, and supported while honoring the life of their loved one. Through your presence, conversation, and assistance with legacy projects, you can help families create lasting memories and meaningful keepsakes. Sometimes the most powerful gift is simply being there—and helping families preserve the love and memories that endure.

🌿 Ready to provide comfort and create lasting legacies?

Join our hospice bereavement volunteer team and make a meaningful difference for families during life’s most difficult transitions.
