Nepal is facing a devastating humanitarian emergency following catastrophic flash floods and landslides that have affected communities across the country, destroying homes, disrupting roads and essential services, and leaving thousands of people displaced, missing, or in need of urgent assistance.

This is not passive volunteering. This is practical, community-rooted engagement where your presence can make a meaningful difference.

As a V4C volunteer in Nepal, you will support communities affected by the disaster and contribute to relief, recovery, and resilience efforts. Depending on local needs and partner guidance, volunteers may support:

• Community outreach and needs assessments to understand the most urgent challenges facing affected families
• Distribution and coordination of essential relief supplies
• Public awareness sessions on safe water, hygiene, sanitation, and disease prevention
• Support for displaced families and people staying in temporary shelters
• Community mapping to identify gaps in access to healthcare, clean water, food, shelter, and other essential services
• Support for children, older people, and other vulnerable community members
• Psychosocial and wellbeing activities that help communities cope with the emotional impact of the disaster
• Documentation of community needs, local solutions, and recovery efforts
• Disaster preparedness and risk-awareness activities to strengthen community resilience

The humanitarian response is facing significant access challenges, particularly in remote and mountainous communities where damaged roads and infrastructure are making assistance difficult to deliver. Health, WASH, shelter, food, medication, and psychosocial support remain important areas of need.

Your role is not symbolic — it is active, visible, and participatory. You will work alongside communities and local partners, listen to what people need, and contribute where your skills and time can have the greatest impact.

Every conversation, every distribution, every awareness session, and every hour of support can contribute to helping communities recover and become better prepared for future disasters.

We are calling on people who are ready to show up — not perfectly, but intentionally.

Whether you are new to volunteering or already experienced in community work, V4C creates a space where your contribution is welcomed and needed.

We are particularly interested in volunteers with backgrounds or interests in:

• Public health and healthcare
• Disaster risk reduction and emergency response
• Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH)
• Community development
• Child and youth support
• Mental health and psychosocial support
• Communications and storytelling
• Logistics and coordination
• Data collection and mapping
• Environmental sustainability
• Humanitarian action

Nepali language skills and familiarity with local communities are an advantage for this placement, but they are not necessarily a requirement. Teams can work together across different backgrounds and support one another.

We are looking for people who lead with empathy, respect local knowledge, communicate responsibly, and are willing to learn directly from communities experiencing the realities of disaster and recovery.
