    Director of Safety, Security & Crisis Protocol (Volunteer)

    Reports To:

    Executive Director (Yanni Profit)

    Hours:

    5–10 hours per week (flexible)

    Available for consultation during crisis situations (remote)

    Location:

    Remote role until physical campus/office is established.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Director of Safety, Security & Crisis Protocol is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety, crisis, and emergency procedures for SHSDV. This role ensures that survivors, volunteers, and staff are protected through strong protocols, trauma-informed safety practices, and clear organizational structure.

    This position is foundational in helping SHSDV operate ethically, legally, and safely as we expand our programs in Illinois.

    This volunteer will build systems now that will eventually develop into a full Safety & Security Department when our physical campus is established.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Develop Organizational Safety Protocols
    • Create SHSDV’s Crisis Response Manual
    • Develop procedures for responding to crisis emails, calls, or walk-ins
    • Build safety guidelines for staff, volunteers, and leadership
    • Establish immediate referral procedures for hotline/shelter resources
    • Write emergency protocols for physical threats, stalking, or harassment
    1. Oversee Crisis Communication Standards
    • Train staff/volunteers on proper responses to high-risk messages
    • Ensure compliance with trauma-informed and liability-safe language
    • Develop scripts/templates for:
      • Crisis emails
      • Crisis calls
      • In-person safety concerns
    • Create boundaries and escalation processes
    1. Build & Train the SHSDV Safety Team
    • Recruit and supervise safety volunteers
    • Provide basic safety training to new team members
    • Coordinate with Outreach, Admin, Social Media, and Executive Director teams
    • Build a screening process for safety volunteers
    1. Create Security Framework for SHSDV’s Future Campus

    (Prep work now; implementation later)

    • Design access control procedures
    • Build visitor check-in protocols
    • Outline safety of survivors entering/exiting the building
    • Develop emergency exit and shelter-in-place procedures
    • Coordinate with potential law enforcement partners
    • Draft security staffing plan
    1. Monitor Organizational Risk
    • Identify potential security vulnerabilities
    • Recommend solutions to reduce liability
    • Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of sensitive information
    1. Support the Executive Director
    • Provide safety consultation for special events
    • Advise on any incidents or threats
    • Participate in monthly leadership meetings
    • Help ensure state/federal compliance with safety requirements

    REQUIREMENTS

    Experience (preferred but not required):

    • Law enforcement, military, security, crisis response, social work, DV experience, or safety management
    • Familiarity with trauma-informed care
    • Experience developing protocols or training materials
    • Strong organizational and communication skills
