Operations Manager, Grab & Go Food Program (Volunteer)

Every Tuesday, A Faith That Does Justice (AFTDJ), an all-volunteer interfaith nonprofit, gives out free grab-and-go meals to neighbors in Boston who face hunger and homelessness. The meals are prepared at Emmanuel Church in the Back Bay and handed out nearby. We’re looking for a warm, organized volunteer to be the steady hand behind it all, making sure the people, food and supplies are in place each week so every guest is served reliably and with dignity.

What you’ll do

• Lead Tuesday’s setup, meal preparation, distribution and cleanup, on time and following our procedures
• Welcome and guide volunteers, and work with the Director to fill shifts or arrange backup coverage
• Place weekly online orders for food and supplies, keep a simple inventory, and have everything organized before we begin
• Keep checklists current and find ways to make the work run more smoothly
• Handle small problems calmly, and bring larger ones to the Director

What you’ll bring

• Experience coordinating volunteers or running a small operation
• Strong organization and communication skills, and comfort with basic technology
• Dependability and warmth with people from all backgrounds
• Sensitivity to food insecurity and homelessness

Commitment: You need to be available on Tuesday mornings, plus a little coordination during the week. You’ll report to the Director of the Food Assistance Program.
