Can you imagine how exhausting being the full-time caretaker for a sick loved one might be? Sometimes the primary caretaker of our patients just need a break. Maybe they have their own doctors appointment to go to, or they need to go to the bank, get an oil change or go to church. Most of the time the patient cannot be left alone. If caretakers don't have a strong family or support system it is very difficult to take care of all of life's little tasks.
This is when the caretaker relief volunteer comes to help. We simply sit with the patient while the caretaker goes to that doctors appointement.
There is NO hands on care. You are simply present with the patient.
These opportunities are usually schedule a few days to a week in advance, but the actual schedules are unpredictable, and the need is almost always during a normal work day, so this opportunity is perfect for someone with a lot of flexibility in their day. Usually the assignments are 1-3 hours in length.
