Volunteer Video Editor & Content Creator

Young STEAMers is a Bay Area nonprofit that provides free, hands-on STEAM education and career exploration opportunities to children and young adults from under-resourced communities. Our programs bring engaging science, technology, engineering, art, and math experiences directly to schools, libraries, shelters, and community organizations.

Position Overview

Young STEAMers is seeking creative, dependable volunteers to join our team as Video Editors and Content Creators.

Selected volunteers will transform photographs and video footage from our programs into engaging short-form content that highlights our students, instructors, community partnerships, and impact. Content may be used on our website, social media platforms, presentations, fundraising campaigns, and community outreach materials.

This opportunity is especially valuable for students studying digital media, communications, film, marketing, graphic design, or a related field who want to gain real-world experience and expand their portfolios while supporting greater access to STEAM education.

Professional experience is not required. We are looking for volunteers who are creative, responsible, open to feedback, and excited about our mission.

Responsibilities

• Edit photographs and video footage into compelling short-form videos
• Create content for Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other digital platforms
• Add music, captions, transitions, graphics, and Young STEAMers branding
• Help communicate our mission and impact through thoughtful visual storytelling
• Adapt content for different formats, audiences, and platforms
• Collaborate with the Young STEAMers team and incorporate feedback
• Organize project files and meet agreed-upon deadlines
• Follow all privacy, confidentiality, copyright, and media-use requirements, particularly when working with images of minors

Qualifications

• Interest in video editing, digital storytelling, social media, or nonprofit communications
• Basic experience with an editing platform such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, Canva, DaVinci Resolve, or a similar program
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and communicate reliably
• Willingness to receive feedback and revise work
• Respect for student privacy and confidential materials
• Alignment with Young STEAMers’ mission of expanding access to STEAM education

Previous professional experience is not required. Personal, academic, or volunteer projects are welcome as examples of your work.

Location and Schedule

This is a primarily remote volunteer opportunity. Volunteers may also have opportunities to attend and capture content at Young STEAMers programs and events throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

The schedule is flexible, but volunteers must be able to meet project deadlines and communicate consistently with the team.
