About Mentor A Promise
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability. Through mentorship, education, social-emotional learning, creative expression, and community-based programming, MAP combines care with accountability—using data ethically to understand impact and improve outcomes.
MAP’s data work prioritizes privacy, dignity, and purpose. Data exists to serve people, not the other way around.
Purpose of the Role
The Data Team Lead oversees MAP’s volunteer data team and supports the collection, organization, analysis, and ethical use of data across programs. This role ensures that data practices are thoughtful, compliant, and useful—helping MAP evaluate impact, inform decision-making, and communicate outcomes clearly.
The Data Team Lead works closely with program, leadership, and governance teams to align data strategy with mission and privacy standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate MAP’s volunteer data and evaluation team
- Support development of data collection tools and impact metrics
- Ensure data practices align with privacy, consent, and governance standards
- Collaborate with Program, SEL, Advancement, and Leadership teams
- Translate data into clear insights, dashboards, or summaries for stakeholders
- Support reporting for grants, donors, and internal planning
- Maintain documentation, data workflows, and version control
- Promote ethical, trauma-informed, and youth-centered data practices
- Participate in planning meetings, reviews, and feedback cycles
- Check and respond to emails daily, with responses within 48 hours
Qualifications
- Experience in data analysis, evaluation, research, or data management
- Ability to lead, coordinate, and mentor volunteer contributors
- Strong understanding of data ethics, privacy, and responsible use
- Comfort working with spreadsheets, dashboards, or data tools
- Ability to translate data into accessible insights
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to mission-driven, equity-centered work
Bonus (Not Required)
- Experience in nonprofit evaluation or social impact measurement
- Familiarity with education, SEL, or youth-serving programs
- Experience with tools such as Google Sheets, Airtable, Excel, or BI dashboards
- Background in research, statistics, or program evaluation
Commitment
- 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Remote collaboration with optional NYC-based participation
