SCORE is seeking volunteer mentors with a background in law to guide small business owners and entrepreneurs. As a SCORE Mentor, you will share your legal knowledge to help clients understand contracts, compliance, business structures, intellectual property, and risk management. Your expertise will empower local entrepreneurs to make informed decisions and build stronger businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one mentoring (in person, by phone, or virtually) to small business clients
- Offer insight into the legal aspects of starting, running, and growing a business (e.g., contracts, incorporation, compliance, intellectual property, employment law basics)
- Encourge clients to seek legal professionals when issues go beyond mentoring scope
- Support SCORE workshops and webinars by contributing subject-matter expertise
- Collaborate with other SCORE mentors to provide well-rounded client support
Desired Skills & Experience
- Background in business law, corporate law, contracts, or related field
- Ability to explain legal concepts clearly to small businesses unfamiliar with legal issues
- Interest in helping entrepreneurs avoid common legal pitfalls
- Strong listening and communication skills
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical mentoring standards
