    Descripción

    Lighthouse Guild is the leading not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to addressing and preventing vision loss. Our mission is to provide exceptional services that inspire people who are visually impaired to attain their goals. With Lighthouse Guild, people who are at risk for, or affected by, vision loss have access to all the resources necessary to lead full, independent, and productive lives. We provide services, research and education, and advocate to help people with low vision and blindness. Our vision is a world in which no person is limited by their visual capacity.

    The Low Vision Center provides specialized eye exams by low vision doctors to evaluate a person’s remaining vision and overall visual function to help maximize existing vision – often with the use of prescribed optical devices. This opportunity is needed to help the staff in the dispensary with the administrative and customer service responsibilities of the department by greeting clients at the front desk.

    Summary:

    The Low Vision Optical Dispensary is currently undergoing staffing transitions. We are looking for candidates to support the staff of the Low Vision Optical Dispensary during this time by providing additional front-desk administrative and customer service support as needed. We seek bright, enthusiastic, and dedicated person(s) with strong desires to help our clients receive the best services.

    Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assisting opticians with glasses inventory
    • Mailing or calling clients to schedule pickup of glasses
    • Receive training on the basics of assistive eyewear, including Meta Glasses.
    • May be asked to help clients with introduction of Meta Glasses.
    • Answer the phone using the Microsoft Teams app on the computer.
    • Update patient records in the eCommunityWorks (eCW) EHR system.

    Volunteer Qualifications

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Clear, strong phone voice.
    • Computer literate.
    • Knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products.
    • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
    • Able to execute tasks and a willingness to learn.
    • Good customer service skills.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Bilingual, English and Spanish preferred

    Details

    • We are looking for volunteers to serve at least once a week, Monday – Friday.
    • The ideal candidate would be able to serve from 9:30am – 4:30pm.
    • If you are not able to serve the entirety of this time, you can choose from one of two shifts:
      • 9am – 1pm
      • 1pm – 5pm
    • You will receive training from Low Vision Center staff on how to answer the phones and use eCW.

    Getting to the Lighthouse Guild: By public transportation you can take the A, B, or C train to 59th and walk two avenues west to Amsterdam and 4 blocks over to 64th and Amsterdam or you can take the 1 train and get off at 66th Street and Lincoln Center use the 65th street exit. Walk West (toward Julliard) to Amsterdam Avenue (LaGuardia H.S. & Martin Luther King H.S. are on the corner).

    On 64th Street, walk toward West End Avenue (the Lincoln Center Library and parking garage will be behind you.) The Lighthouse Guild is at the end of the block on the left-hand side of the street past the playground and apartment buildings.
