DISASTER CYCLE SERVICES (DCS) SHELTER RESIDENT TRANSITION RESPONDERS
Available in Philadelphia and surrounding region.
Empower disaster clients along road to recovery!
- Work with shelter residents to better understand resources.
- Help households create individualized recovery plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support disaster clients at shelters as they transition to more sustainable living solution.
- Shorten clients’ time of disaster-caused displacement and jumpstarting their long-term recovery.
- Cultivate trust-based relationships with assigned households.
- Provide services equitably, including empowerment, transition planning, information, coaching, advocacy, resources & referrals, case conferencing, etc.
- Document household resources, barriers, and progression toward an identified transition plan.
- Additional related duties as discussed with supervisor.
Commitment:
- In-person regional position covering Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
- Episodic when large scale disasters are open; 30+ hours.

- Ability to work with a broad variety of people with diverse backgrounds.
- Proficient at appropriately involving others in managing conflicts and challenges.
- Valid Driver’s License (required for deployment out of region).
- Comfortable functioning in a dynamic and stressful environment.
- Willingness to acquire, evaluate, and report information accurately.
- NOTE: This role is not typically recommended for new Red Cross volunteers, though individuals with previous case management experience may do well starting in this role.
