    Descripción

    Description:

    This opportunity is for a volunteer to lead Tai Chi classes for senior residents at Arboleda Apartments. The volunteer will guide residents through gentle movements focused on balance, flexibility, and fall prevention, helping residents improve physical stability and overall wellness. Sessions are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

    Reports to:

    Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator

    Goal of Position:

    To provide senior residents with an outlet for physical and spiritual activity that supports balance, mobility, and overall health while reducing the risk of falls.

    Specific Tasks:

    1. Prepare an agenda for each Tai Chi session, including appropriate exercises for senior participants.
    2. Lead residents through Tai Chi movements while providing clear instruction, encouragement, and support.
    3. Offer guidance or one‑on‑one assistance to residents as needed while encouraging independence.
    4. Monitor attendance and ensure all participating residents sign the sign‑in sheet.
    5. Listen to resident feedback and remain open to questions or suggestions about movements.
    6. Assist with setting up and cleaning up the activity space, including moving chairs or tables as needed.
    7. Communicate any supply or support needs to the Service Coordinator or Volunteer Coordinator.

    Qualifications:

    Physical/Age Requirements:

    • Able to maintain physical activity for a one‑hour class.
    • Able to move chairs or tables to create a safe activity space.

    Skills/Education/Experience:

    • Experience or education in Tai Chi, exercise instruction, or movement‑based activities preferred.
    • Prior teaching or group facilitation experience is a plus.
    • Friendly, patient, and comfortable working with senior residents.
    • Ability to work independently with residents while coordinating with site staff.
    • CPR and First Aid certification strongly preferred.
