Men of CASA: Child Advocate Volunteer

Children involved in the child welfare system, both boys and girls, need the presence of safe men in their lives. Court Appointed Special Advocates/Guardian ad Litem volunteers (CASA/GAL) have the opportunity to form positive and healthy connections with children who have experienced abuse and neglect. Volunteering can make a huge impact for future generations. CASA/GAL volunteers are everyday people from all walks of life, who are trained and empowered to advocate for the best interest of children who are victims of abuse and neglect. Volunteers must be 21 years of age, attend 30 hours of pre-service training, and commit to two years of service.

The CASA/GAL Program of Summit County serves the best interest of abused and neglected children in the Juvenile Court System. CASA/GAL volunteers provide quality advocacy for children so that every child can be safe in a permanent home with an opportunity to thrive.

Although all CASA/GAL volunteers are trained and ready to advocate for any child, children with a consistent, positive male influence in their life:

    • Have better physical well-being
    • Possess higher competency for relating to others
    • Demonstrate greater ability to take initiative
    • Show better evidence of self-control
    • Achieve more academically
    • Are more likely to abstain from using drugs
