Classroom Grandparents Needed Throughout Strafford County

The Friends Program connects adults age 55+ with opportunities to serve children across Strafford County and beyond as classroom volunteers. Our volunteers support students in schools, childcare centers, and afterschool programs by offering consistent social, emotional, and academic support.Volunteers commit at least 10 hours per week and become an important part of the educational team.

Volunteers receive ongoing training and support, monthly workshops, and enjoy a renewed sense of purpose. Foster Grandparents are highly valued members of school communities.

Participants who meet certain income guidelines may qualify for a modest, tax-exempt stipend that does not impact Social Security, housing, SNAP, or other benefits.
