Position Summary:
We’re looking for a creative, organized, and passionate Communications Specialist to join our team! In this volunteer role, you’ll play a key part in how we tell our story, both to the public and within our internal community. You’ll help shine a spotlight on the amazing work our organization does, introduce and celebrate staff, and keep our members and followers informed and engaged.
Responsibilities:
- Draft and schedule engaging posts for LinkedIn to highlight our initiatives, events, and impact
- Work closely with the Social Media Manager to ensure a consistent message across platforms and avoid content overlap or double-posting
- Create internal and external communications to welcome new staff and celebrate current team members
- Help maintain a consistent voice and tone across platforms in alignment with our values
- Collaborate with other volunteers and teams to promote events and programs
- Brainstorm and implement new ways to increase community engagement on social media
- Assist with basic graphic design (using Canva or similar tools) for posts and updates
- Contribute to the development of communication strategies to grow our reach and visibility
Qualifications:
- Strong written communication skills with a friendly, professional tone
- Comfortable using or learning tools like Canva, Buffer/Hootsuite, Discord, or similar platforms
- Interest in or experience with social media and community engagement
- Collaborative spirit and self-motivated attitude
- Passion for gender inclusivity and GFS’s mission
