Program Development, Research, Writing, and Curriculum Design for the Swahili Community

    Who We Are

New York Tanzanian Community (NYTC) is a nonprofit organization serving Tanzanian and Swahili speaking community members in New York and beyond. Our work focuses on building community focused, impact creating programs that respond to the challenges immigrants face during uncertain times.

We support individuals and families through education, access to information, and programs rooted in lived experience. As our work grows, we are strengthening our website and developing new programs to better serve the community.

    What This Role Is

This role supports program development, research, writing, and curriculum design. We are looking for someone who enjoys shaping programs, organizing ideas, and writing clearly.

You will help develop the structure of three programs that are still in early stages. This includes thinking through learning goals, content flow, and how information is presented. You will also help write and edit our vision and other foundational materials that explain who we are, what we do, and why our work matters.

This is not a technical role, not marketing, and not social media. It is about clarity, structure, learning, and meaning.

    Why We Need This Role

NYTC has strong ideas, values, and community knowledge. What we need support with is:

    • shaping programs that are clear and usable
    • designing learning or curriculum style materials for community programs
    • organizing ideas into structures that make sense to participants
    • making sure our written materials are clear and accessible

This role helps ensure that our programs are thoughtful, practical, and easy to understand.

    What You Will Do

You will work closely with NYTC leadership and collaborators to:

    • Help design and structure three community programs
    • Contribute to curriculum or learning based program design where appropriate
    • Research community, nonprofit, or educational program models
    • Ask questions that help clarify goals, audience, and outcomes
    • Write and edit the organization’s vision and core documents
    • Organize ideas into outlines, lesson structures, or written materials
    • Edit drafts for clarity, flow, and consistency
    • Turn conversations and notes into clear, finished documents

    Who This Is For

This role may be a good fit if you:

    • Have experience with program design, curriculum development, or teaching
    • Enjoy writing and organizing ideas
    • Have worked as an educator, professor, curriculum designer, or program planner
    • Are comfortable working with early stage ideas
    • Care about community focused work and clear communication

You do not need to speak Swahili, but you should be comfortable working with immigrant and community centered perspectives.

When and How You Will Work

    • Work is remote
    • Schedule is flexible
    • Time commitment discussed based on availability
    • Role can grow as programs develop

    Why This Work Matters

The programs and materials developed through this role will help immigrants better navigate uncertain times, support learning and access, and help the community understand available resources.
