    Location: Remote via Google Meet and/or New York City (as needed)

    Type: Staff (Part-Time) or Senior Volunteer (Unpaid)

    About Mentor A Promise

    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability. Through mentorship, literacy development, social-emotional learning, creative expression, and community-based programs, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people are seen, respected, and valued.

    To sustain and scale this work, MAP is building a thoughtful, ethical, and diversified advancement strategy rooted in relationships, trust, and long-term impact.

    Purpose of the Role

    The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) leads MAP’s fundraising, partnerships, and resource development strategy. This role oversees individual giving, institutional fundraising, corporate partnerships, sponsorships, and donor stewardship—ensuring that MAP’s growth is financially sustainable and mission-aligned.

    The CAO works closely with executive leadership and the Board to build systems, relationships, and narratives that support MAP’s long-term vision.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and execute MAP’s comprehensive advancement and fundraising strategy
    • Develop diversified revenue streams (individual, foundation, corporate, events, grants)
    • Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, partners, and sponsors
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board on fundraising goals and strategy
    • Support grant development strategy in coordination with grant writers
    • Oversee donor communications, stewardship plans, and impact reporting
    • Guide ethical fundraising practices and donor data governance
    • Align fundraising messaging with MAP’s mission, values, and storytelling
    • Support event-based fundraising and community engagement efforts
    • Participate in leadership, planning, and governance meetings
    • Check and respond to emails daily, with responses within 48 hours

    Qualifications

    • Experience in nonprofit fundraising, advancement, development, or partnerships
    • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
    • Experience with individual donors, foundations, and/or corporate partners
    • Ability to develop strategy while supporting hands-on execution
    • Comfort collaborating with boards, executives, and volunteers
    • High ethical standards and respect for donor trust and transparency
    • Commitment to equity-centered, trauma-informed, and mission-driven work

    Bonus (Not Required)

    • Experience building advancement functions in growing nonprofits
    • Familiarity with donor management systems (CRM, databases, tracking tools)
    • Experience with capital campaigns or multi-year fundraising strategies
    • Background in education, youth services, or housing-related nonprofits

    Commitment

    • 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Remote collaboration with optional NYC-based participation
