Yucaipa Animal Placement Society (YAPS), a well-established nonprofit organization serving the Inland Empire for over 50 years, is seeking a motivated and compassionate Volunteer Outreach Coordinator. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about animal welfare, enjoys working with people, and has the ability to inspire and manage a diverse group of volunteers.
Position Overview
The Volunteer Outreach Coordinator will develop, implement, and oversee YAPS’ volunteer program. This includes recruiting, scheduling, supervising, and training volunteers, while fostering a positive and inclusive environment. The Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers and represent YAPS in the community through outreach, public speaking, and cultural engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Volunteer Recruitment & Outreach
- Recruit, onboard, and train new volunteers to support shelter operations and events
- Develop and maintain partnerships with schools, community groups, and local organizations
- Represent YAPS at community events, volunteer fairs, and public speaking engagements
- Volunteer Management & Supervision
- Schedule, supervise, and support volunteers across a variety of roles (animal care, fundraising events, adoption events, etc.)
- Provide ongoing coaching, recognition, and appreciation to foster volunteer retention
- Maintain accurate volunteer records and hours
- Program Development & Communication
- Create volunteer policies, procedures, and training materials in alignment with YAPS’ mission
- Ensure inclusivity and cultural competency in all volunteer interactions
- Communicate regularly with volunteers regarding opportunities, schedules, and organizational needs
Qualifications
- Prior experience coordinating or supervising volunteers preferred
- Strong communication and public speaking skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
- Highly organized, dependable, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with scheduling, record-keeping, and basic computer skills (Google Workspace, MS Office, or similar)

Schedule & Compensation
- Part-time position (hours negotiable, must include some weekends/evenings for events)
