Cafe Host - Mobile Blood Drives (Twin Cities Metro)

Mobile Blood Drive Canteen Hosts volunteer at blood drives hosted across the Twin Cities metro area — at workplaces, schools, houses of worship, community centers, and more. Each drive takes place at a different location, so this role is a great fit for someone who enjoys variety and is comfortable traveling within the metro.

By offering conversation, support, and an enjoyable place to recover, Canteen Hosts help shape a donor’s experience at Memorial Blood Centers. Their kindness and appreciation leave donors feeling valued and motivated to give again.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Greet donors warmly and thank them sincerely for their lifesaving gift
    • Monitor donors for comfort and safety, alerting staff if they feel faint or unwell
    • Offer refreshments and assist with small needs
    • Engage in friendly conversation to help donors feel at home
    • Share practical tips and direct donors to resources
    • Inform donors about upcoming promotions and ways to stay involved
    • Encourage loyalty by helping donors book their next appointment (with staff support and/or technology provided)
    • Maintain a tidy canteen environment

    What to Expect

    • Blood drives are held at varying locations throughout the Twin Cities metro — reliable transportation is needed
    • Volunteers choose the drives that fit their schedule; shifts are typically a few hours
    • You'll receive training before your first shift and will have staff nearby at all times

    What We’re Looking For

    • A warm, friendly personality with genuine care for people from all walks of life
    • Strong listening and conversation skills
    • Ability to stay attentive and calm in case of a donor reaction (training provided)
    • Dependability
    • Comfortable being the only volunteer on shift, with staff nearby for support
    • Completion of a background check is required (provided at no cost to you)
