    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, academic enrichment, and social-emotional learning (SEL). MAP’s mentors are often not trained educators—but they are trusted adults who show up consistently. High-quality, education-specific training ensures mentors are prepared to support learning, emotional safety, and positive classroom experiences.

About the Department of Mentor Training & Instructional Support

The Department of Mentor Training & Instructional Support equips mentors with the instructional tools, facilitation skills, and pedagogical confidence needed to support youth learning. The department focuses on education-specific onboarding, classroom management for non-teachers, and ongoing coaching to ensure mentors deliver high-quality, trauma-informed learning experiences.

    Role Overview

We are seeking a Director of Mentor Training & Pedagogical Support to lead education-specific mentor onboarding, instructional training, and ongoing professional development. This senior leadership role ensures mentors are supported with clear guidance, practical strategies, and coaching aligned with MAP’s curriculum and classroom expectations.

The Director works closely with the Chief of Education, Curriculum & Instruction, SEL & Youth Development, and Program Leadership to ensure mentor training aligns with instructional standards, developmental needs, and trauma-informed practice.

    • Collaborate with curriculum and SEL leadership to align training with learning goals

    • Strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred Skills
