Development & Fundraising Support Volunteer

RISE Travel Institute is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a mission to create a more just and equitable world through travel education.​ We envision a world where travelers practice and promote responsible, impactful, sustainable, and ethical travel that uplifts global communities and protects natural ecosystems. RISE Travel Institute is run entirely by remote-based volunteers who are dedicated to inspiring travelers to create positive social, economic, and environmental impact on travel destinations.

We are looking for two (2) experienced Development & Fundraising Support Volunteers to join our team. You will help with grant research, donor outreach, fundraising campaigns, and other development activities to support RISE’s mission and strengthen our fundraising and organizational growth efforts.

Examples of Support Activities

Volunteers typically support a subset of the activities below, based on interest, skills, and availability. Tasks may vary week to week.

• Support fundraising efforts through research, prospect identification, and grant proposals
• Collaborate across teams to plan and execute campaigns, events, and donor outreach
• Help prepare materials, including email campaigns, social media, and printed collateral
• Maintain and organize donor and prospect information to ensure accurate records
• Track fundraising metrics and contribute to reporting on campaign outcomes
• Research trends in philanthropy, funding opportunities, and best practices
• Assist with donor stewardship through donor acknowledgments and relationship-building
• Provide insights and suggestions to improve fundraising strategies and outreach efforts
• Model and promote equity, inclusion, and accessibility in all fundraising communications
• Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous personal learning in these areas

Qualifications for Success in This Role

These qualifications reflect skills and experience that support success in this role. Not all are required, and we welcome volunteers who are eager to learn.

• Experience with grant research, proposal writing, or general fundraising support​
• Experience with donor management systems, Salesforce, Slack, and Google Workspace
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills; able to follow guidance and collaborate
• Interest in helping strategize campaigns, donor outreach, and development initiatives
• Knowledge of best practices in philanthropy and nonprofit fundraising
• Comfort tracking/analyzing fundraising metrics, preparing reports, presenting insights
• Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and organization
• Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn
• Demonstrated commitment to sustainable travel, sustainability, and social justice
• Ability to communicate effectively across teams and explain concepts in plain language
• Helpful/Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Finance or related field or 3+ years of experience in fundraising, development, grant writing, or related roles

Volunteer Commitments Requested

• We ask all volunteers to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
• Volunteers typically contribute four (4) hours per week, on a flexible schedule
• We request a one-year period of service to support program continuity and cohesion
