Social Media & Digital Engagement Specialist — Volunteer/Internship
About The Lily Foundation & Advocates
The Lily Foundation & Advocates is a 501(c)(3) healthcare advocacy organization dedicated to improving patient navigation, caregiver support, healthcare literacy, and equitable access to community resources. Founded in 2025, our mission is to stand beside patients and families navigating fragmented healthcare systems, ensuring their dignity is preserved and their care is maximized.
As an early-stage nonprofit, we are building a recognizable and trusted public presence that can educate communities, connect people with resources, attract volunteers and partners, and amplify the voices of patients and caregivers. We are seeking a creative and mission-driven Social Media & Digital Engagement Specialist to help bring our mission to life across digital platforms.
Role Overview & Commitment
In this role, you will help shape the Foundation’s social media voice and digital engagement strategy. You will work collaboratively with leadership and our Podcast & Social Media Specialist to transform programs, health-awareness initiatives, educational resources, events, volunteer opportunities, and organizational milestones into engaging and accessible digital content.
We are looking for someone interested in helping us build an audience, tell meaningful stories, create campaigns, and develop a consistent digital identity.
- Opportunity Type: Unpaid volunteer opportunity, open to students, emerging professionals, career changers, and experienced communications professionals. Students seeking an internship are welcome to apply; academic credit is subject to their institution’s requirements and approval.
- Time Commitment: Approximately 5–20 hours per week, based on your availability and an agreed scope of work. Responsibilities will be tailored to the time you can consistently contribute.
- Flexible & Remote: 100% remote and primarily asynchronous—contribute on a schedule that works for you. Volunteers and interns will meet with Maya Winder via Microsoft Teams weekly or every other week, with timing agreed around their academic or other commitments. These check-ins provide dedicated time for questions, guidance, feedback, and progress updates.
- Collaborative Team: We may welcome two volunteers to share responsibilities based on complementary interests and strengths, such as content creation, video, campaign planning, or community engagement.
- Humanitarian Impact: Help health information, advocacy resources, and opportunities for support reach patients, caregivers, families, and communities who may need them.
Key Responsibilities
- Social Media Strategy & Content Calendar: Develop and maintain an organized content calendar aligned with Foundation priorities, programs, health observances, events, and campaigns.
- Content Creation & Storytelling: Create engaging captions, graphics, short-form videos, educational posts, calls to action, and campaign concepts for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Health Awareness & Educational Campaigns: Develop approachable digital content around patient advocacy, caregiver support, health literacy, health equity, community resources, and relevant awareness campaigns.
- Volunteer, Event & Fundraising Promotion: Help promote volunteer opportunities, Foundation events, fundraising initiatives, partnerships, workshops, and organizational milestones.
- Digital Community Engagement: Identify appropriate opportunities for the Foundation to participate in relevant online conversations and engage with community organizations, advocates, partners, and supporters.
- Analytics & Continuous Improvement: Review basic engagement and performance metrics and use those insights to recommend improvements to content, timing, messaging, and audience engagement.
Qualifications
You do not need extensive professional experience or 10+ years in the field to contribute. We welcome applicants who demonstrate creativity, strong communication skills, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Relevant experience may come from coursework, personal projects, student organizations, volunteering, internships, or professional work.
- Social Media Familiarity: Experience creating or managing content for one or more platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, or YouTube. Expertise across every platform is not required.
- Writing & Storytelling: Strong written communication skills with the ability to turn complex or detailed information into concise, approachable digital content.
- Creative Mindset: Comfortable developing new content ideas, campaign concepts, and ways to visually communicate a mission.
- Organization & Collaboration: Ability to manage agreed deadlines, communicate availability, receive feedback, and work with a remote team.
- Mission Alignment: Interest in patient advocacy, healthcare access, caregiver support, health education, nonprofit communications, or community engagement.
- Additional Skills Welcomed: Experience with Adobe Express, Canva, social media scheduling tools, video editing, digital marketing, analytics, photography, or nonprofit communications is a plus.
