The Chicago Help Initiative hosts a large hot meal every Wednesday at the Catholic Charities building. Our guests are typically people who are homeless, mentally ill, elderly, or just going through a hard time.
Some of these guests will be losing their SNAP benefits in 2026 due to the new work requirements.
We need volunteers to work one-on-one with people who are interested in looking for jobs. This might involve creating a resume, using our Jobs Resource Guide to apply directly to jobs and/or connecting the person with job training programs in the area.
You will need to be patient, kind and also resourceful to work with this population.
We will provide training, and you will be working in a room with other job club volunteers and a staff member.
You do not have make a weekly commitment, but the more frequently you can help us the more you will learn and be able to help people.
Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
