Gentiva Hospice is seeking compassionate, dependable individuals to serve as Companion Volunteers for patients and families in our care.
Companion Volunteers offer something deeply meaningful: their presence. This role is about showing up, listening, and helping patients feel less alone during an important season of life.
What a Companion Volunteer Does:
- Provide companionship through conversation, reading, music, or quiet presence
- Offer emotional support to patients and families
- Sit with patients so caregivers can take a short break
- Run occasional small errands or assist with non-medical tasks
- Support patients in homes or facilities
No hands-on medical care is involved.
What We’re Looking For:
- A kind, patient, and respectful demeanor
- Good listening skills and emotional maturity
- Reliability and the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Comfort being present during end-of-life moments
- Willingness to follow hospice policies and boundaries
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Completion of volunteer orientation and training
- Background check and TB screening (provided by Gentiva Hospice)
- Commitment of a few hours per month
