The YMCA of Honolulu is dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Kaimuki-Waialae YMCA serves East Honolulu with a wide range of programs including aquatics, youth sports, early education, fitness, and kupuna engagement. Our aquatics program is a cornerstone of the branch, offering swim lessons, water safety education, and competitive opportunities for keiki and families.

Role Description

As an Aquatics Assistant, you will support swim instruction for keiki and help facilitate swim meets and aquatic events. This is a dynamic, team-oriented role that combines youth engagement, event support, and community building.

Time Commitment

• Flexible scheduling based on program and event needs
• Opportunities for both recurring weekly shifts and occasional swim meets

Key Responsibilities

Swim Instruction Support (Keiki Programs):

• Assist instructors during swim lessons for keiki
• Help ensure participant safety in and around the pool
• Encourage skill-building, confidence, and water safety awareness

Swim Meet Support:

• Serve as a timer or assist with officiating during swim meets
• Help ensure events run smoothly and on schedule
• Support setup and breakdown of meet equipment

Concessions (Swim Meets):

• Assist with selling snacks and refreshments during events
• Handle basic transactions and maintain a clean, organized area
• Provide friendly service to families and spectators

Impact

This role supports youth development and water safety while helping create positive, organized, and engaging aquatics events. Volunteers play a key role in building confidence in young swimmers and strengthening community connections through shared experiences.
