Lead craft activities with memory support residents!

About:

Norwood Crossing is a non-profit senior living community located in Chicago's Norwood Park neighborhood. Our residential campus specializes in assisted living, skilled nursing, rehab, respite stays, and memory support (including Alzheimer's and dementia care). For over 100 years, we have been dedicated to enhancing the independence and well-being of older adults.

We're looking for a volunteer for our award-winning Memory Support Unit to keep residents company by leading crafting activities.

Time Commitment: Minimum once a week at the same time every week. Day of the week is flexible but mornings are preferred.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

• Lead craft activities for the Memory Support residents.
• Partner with the Director of Memory Support to plan craft activities and communicate material needs.

Qualifications:

• Must be passionate about volunteering, friendly, patient, and considerate.
• Must be able to work with residents who have Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia.
• Be able to work independently and with staff members.
• Strong communication skills.
• Able to safely transport residents in their wheelchairs if needed (training provided).
• Able to commit to being here on time. Advance notice of absences is most helpful for the residents and staff.
• Interpersonal flexibility required and ability to take direction from staff.
