Are you ready to make a lasting impact on members of your community?
Join us in our mission to promote literacy! Literacy is not just about opportunity--it is an essential skill that affects all areas of a person's life including self-esteem, employment, family life, and community involvement. Engage with fellow community members by leading a themed group discussion, supporting literacy skills such as reading, writing, and speaking in a low stakes social setting and with the support of the Literacy team.
You do not need to have prior experience, speak another language, or even have a college degree to be an effective conversation group lead, only an interest in connecting with members of the community. The Simi Valley Public Library is looking for volunteers who are empathetic, patient, and ready to lead programs with a learner-centered approach. If this sounds like you, then don't hesitate to register for this unique opportunity!
English Conversation Group meets every Monday (except holidays) from 5-6pm and takes place in-person at the Simi Valley Public Library's community room, located at 2969 Tapo Canyon Road, Simi Valley, CA 93063.
English conversation group leads are responsible for:
- Meeting with other English Language Learners in a group setting to practice speaking and understanding others in conversation.
- Creating a themed agenda to guide discussion (examples provided).
- Committing to lead discussion at least twice a month for a minumum of three months.
