Collections Advisory Committee member for Issaquah History Museums

Issaquah History Museums (IHM) is seeking citizens to sit on its Collections Advisory Board, a 3–5 member committee that will meet quarterly to advise the museum on decisions concerning the artifacts in its care. (No conservation or museum experience is required.)

The ideal volunteer for this role brings a passion for local history, working knowledge of Issaquah (or the Seattle Eastside generally) and its history, a love of place, or experience with museums.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Attending quarterly meetings to review artifacts for acceptance or deaccession
    • Engaging in healthy debate concerning the future of our artifacts
    • Advising IHM’s decisions regarding those artifacts
    • Learning basic museum collections practices and ethics necessary (in role)

This is a volunteer opportunity that can occur on committee members' schedules once quarterly, and is intended as an ongoing commitment of a year or more.

Issaquah History Museums (IHM) serves more than 20,000 people annually, providing access to our town’s history through our museum exhibits, pop-up exhibits, and a range of public programs. The Issaquah Depot Museum houses compelling exhibits that invite visitors to get a deeper sense of Issaquah’s past, and through the David J. Horrocks Memorial Research Center at Gilman Town Hall. IHM public programming includes a series of engaging cultural and natural history walks and special "Let’s Talk Local History" presentations at various area venues (even yours!). In addition to exploring our resource library, IHM also provides online access to our collections catalog and more than 100 years’ worth of the original Issaquah Press back issues. At the core of IHM’s exhibits, programs and website are the 40,000+ photographs and artifacts that make up the community’s collection. Each of these items tells its own story about Issaquah’s past. Museum staff continue to collect items representing Issaquah’s story, and we receive additional materials from dozens of donors annually. Learn more about us at www.issaquahhistory.org.
